The second book in the New Avalon series will be arriving soon! Here's a look at the beautiful cover, designed by Natasha Brown. Elena Baxter’s second year at New Avalon may be more challenging than her first. The demons she was warned about show up, a visitor who greatly affects her arrives, and her best friend, Izzy, has to deal with her painful past. Can Elena survive everything that’s coming at her at once? Or will the future Lady of the Lake take on more than she can possibly handle? Excerpt: Elena ran through the dark woods, tree branches leaving deep, angry, red scratches on her arms, legs, and face. Her legs were heavy and her feet were cold and damp. The moist dirt of the forest floor began to seep through her shoes. She desperately wanted to look behind her to see if the dark figures were still there, but she dared not, afraid it would slow her down and they would catch up to her. She kept running; she felt as though her lungs were about to explode and her heart would burst out of her chest at any moment. Cold sweat broke out all over her skin. Just when she thought she couldn’t run anymore, she reached the edge of a cliff that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Peering through the heavy mist, she realized she had run to one of the far edges of Avalon, and knew the only thing below her was the icy cold ocean. With nowhere else to go, Elena turned to await the dark figures chasing her. She prepared to use her magic on them, even with the knowledge that the few spells she had learned so far would barely touch her oncoming attackers. She would defend herself - she would not let them see how terrified she was. As she watched ahead of her, three dark figures appeared, and when they saw her, they came rushing at her. They reached out their hands, casting their own spells faster than she could react to them. As several fireballs headed toward her, Elena began to scream. Lisa Day Have you met Rebekah Lyn? NO, well here's your chance... Do be sure to check out the whole post there are surprises.. So, Who’s Your Publisher? My best friend’s son texted me out of the blue to tell me his buddy was finishing up a book that he thought had a great plotline and wanted to know if my publisher only took Christian books. I smiled at the text from this kid I’ve known for twenty years but haven’t seen since his high school graduation. This was the latest in a serious of similar inquires from friends, relatives, or perfect strangers who happen to be friends with someone who knows me. I replied to the text with the answer I am starting to get down pat. Self-publishing is the way to go if your friend has the nerves for it. Have him call or email me and I’ll share everything I know. When I started this publishing journey I was working with a writing partner, DiVoran Lites, who is several years older. She’d gone to writing conferences as a young woman and even had one of her books considered by HarperCollins. She never got published though and focused her energy on raising a family. We both finished our books and while I started working on a new story she went back to do more polishing and refining. With my second book written I decided it was time to start looking into publishing. I read tons of articles, started following literary agents on Facebook and Twitter, subscribing to their blogs, and crafting query letters. I sent out a few queries and kept reading everything I could find on publishing. That’s when I discovered self-publishing. I liked the idea of having complete control over my manuscript, being able to follow it from start to finish, keep track of sales and manage pricing. I talked about all I was learning with my writing partner, hoping she would take the plunge with me. She smiled and encouraged me, but didn’t think her book was ready yet. In October 2011 I uploaded my first book, Summer Storms, and learned that publishing was only the second step in the writing journey. Now I had to learn how to get my book in front of people who might find it interesting. About six months after I published Summer Storms, DiVoran started asking questions about my experience and before I knew it, she was pulling out that old book that had been sent to HarperCollins, dusting it off and getting it ready to publish. I’d found an editor and a cover designer by this time and they were both working on getting my second book ready for print so I put my friend in touch with them. At this point our publishing journey took a small split as DiVoran was more than happy to have the editor do the book formatting while I like to maintain that control. Another friend of a friend, Dean Gaschler, asked me for direction when he started working on his book of short stories from his career at Walt Disney World. For many years Dean chose the family that would be the grand marshal of the Magic Kingdom parade and had collected their stories. I shared with him all I had learned from my first two books as he and his wife helped me complete the trailer for my third book. In the end, Dean chose to go with a local small press and he seems very happy. Everyone is going to have a different comfort level and I try to make sure those who ask for my advice know the pros and cons of self-publishing. If you want your book to succeed, this becomes a full-time job and there are days when it may not seem worth it. But then there are the days you get to interact with a reader and hear what they enjoyed about your book and there are the days when aspiring writers will come to you for advice. Those days make all of the hard work worthwhile. I love sharing my experiences with others as well as learning from those who have more experience. That is one of best parts of the indie writing scene, the camaraderie and support. Here's her new book... Here's little excerpt... Set Back April 25, 1961 Jessie stood at the edge of the playground with two other boys, anxious for the next space launch. Recess would be over any minute. There would be no time for a hold in the countdown. Two weeks earlier the Russians had announced the successful launch of Yuri Gagarin into space. Once again the Americans had been left behind but today’s launch would hopefully be the last before America put their own man into space. Jessie held his breath as the rocket appeared above the trees. Then it happened. The plume of white smoke erupted into a fiery ball, debris flying in all directions. Jessie didn’t wait for the teacher’s frantic call to take shelter in the school. He shook his head and turned his back on the carnage. At the door, the teacher gently laid a hand on his shoulder and gave him a sympathetic look. Any other day and Jessie might have resented it, but he knew, today, it had nothing to do with his father and the reputation he’d developed for himself the past couple of years. When school was out, Jessie dragged his feet along the familiar path home. He kept walking when he came upon his brothers, his head down, watching the sand shift beneath his worn-out sneakers. “I heard the explosion.” Max draped an arm over Jessie’s shoulders. “Sorry.” Jessie nodded. “Maybe we should go out to the beach, see if we can find any pieces,” Ricky suggested. The thought turned Jessie’s stomach, but then he stopped. “That’s not a bad idea. I’d like to have something to remember we at least tried to get to space.” “Don’t talk like that,” Sam said. “We’ll get there, it’s just going to take time.” Jessie knew Sam was trying to be encouraging, and so attempted a smile of thanks before shifting course across the large field of scrub grass. The boys spread out when they reached the beach. The tide was low but turning. Jessie took the section closest to the water, knowing the rising tide would cover it in another hour. The salty tang of sea spray filled his nostrils and he inhaled, while his eyes and ears locked away every detail of the sand and surf. He saw a flash of light ten feet ahead and quickened his pace, keeping his eyes on the spot. The ocean foamed up, then slowly retreated. Jessie squatted down to find a silver and black triangle, partially buried in the sand. Another wave rushed toward him, splashing over his feet and soaking the bottom of his shorts. He held onto the metal afraid the undertow would pull it out to sea. When the water receded, Jessie pulled the debris free of the remaining sand. It was five inches tall and three wide. Turning it over in his hands he noted scorch marks and part of what he thought might be the letter U or A from the USA painted on the side of the rocket. “Guys,” he waved to his brothers. Max arrived first. “What’d you find?” Jessie handed him the piece of metal. “Cool.” Ricky joined them and reached for the newfound treasure. “Good job, Jess.” Sam clapped his brother on the back. “I didn’t think we’d find anything that big.” Jessie reached for the metal and traced the rough edges. “You don’t think they will give up do you?” Sam shook his head. "Since the Russians have gotten into space already, I don’t see how we can give up now." "I hope they don’t.” Jessie tore his gaze away from his find and looked at his brothers. “I want to be an astronaut." Max laughed. "You can't be an astronaut." "Why not?" "Cause you gotta have money to be an astronaut. You don't think Shepard and Grissom and all those other guys are dirt poor do you?" "Maybe they’re not dirt poor, but they aren’t filthy rich. They were chosen because they were in the military and had good records." "So you gonna enlist when you turn eighteen? We'll probably still be in that dag gum Vietnam and you'll go and get yourself killed the first day in the jungle." "Nuh-huh. I know how to take care of myself. I hide from you in the woods all the time." Jessie balled his hands into fists and planted his feet. Sam stepped between them. "Cool it, Max. If Jessie wants to be an astronaut, then maybe he can be. Lots of things are changing."............... Here's more about the author and where to get her book... Rebekah is a Christian with a heart for new beginnings. The measure of this book is that the triumph is not a textbook description, but a sense of a living struggle.” “A cross between Game of Thrones and Dune” “Astonishing, intriguing, thoughtful” “It will be hard to put this book down long enough to eat and sleep, never mind doing responsible things like going to work and taking care of the kids” “[It] hits on those big archetypal themes of invasion, loss, leadership, death... and high tech. It gives the reader plenty of material for discussion.” “Warning: May cause loss of sleep, lowered work productivity, and missed meals” *** Oh, here is a picture of the author himself. Lisa Day is proud to Introduce a brand new author.... Meredith Jade Never Upon a Time You’ve always hated her, but you might not know the whole story. . . Read an excerpt: Edith may not be brazen and enchanted like her twin sister, Ember, but in a world of dying magic, perhaps her simple desires are enough. After a Selection Banquet gone awry, Edith is left without a suitor or a plan. Befriending a little white fox and occupying herself with a philanthropic project outside castle walls, Edith soon rebuilds morale and musters enough courage to reach out to her estranged twin sister. But Ember’s been harboring an evil secret - and thwarted love and jealous can turn acts of merit into classic tales of wickedness in this new twist on an old tale. “You bastard dog!” Gretchen screamed. Such profane words from a child made Wyck stop dead in his tracks. “You wait, you bastard dog. Just you wait,” she called. “I will tell everyone across the Land what has transpired today, and I will make sure generations thereafter hear.” “And what is this threat?” asked the wolf. “You’ll tell them how your aunt was murdered, how your family is dishonorable beyond repair? I don’t understand.” “I will tell them of the big, bad wolf who taunts and tricks innocent girls and of the witch who lures naïve children to her cottage in the Wood. No one will dare dispute the tales, especially if my mother is Queen.” “Do what you will. No one will believe you or your dark-hearted mother,” Wyck said. Empty threats did not vex him. “And why do you say that?” “Because you’re a liar, and those things are untrue. They never happened, so they’ll never be believed.” He paused and added, “And your mother will never be Queen.” With that, Wyck turned away from the wretched girl with the red cape, his appetite now whetted for conflict. The big, bad wolf couldn’t wait to try out his new teeth. ____________________________________________________________________ Buy Links Amazon Paperback http://www.amazon.com/Never-Upon-Time-Fairy-Tale/dp/0692247653/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404355185&sr=8-1&keywords=never+upon+a+time Kindle http://www.amazon.com/Never-Upon-Time-Fairy-Tale-ebook/dp/B00LGABGTW/ _____________________________________________________________________ Now introducing the author: Meredith Jade was raised in a small town by parents who taught her to love reading. Through the scandalous family lies that bind them all together the Shaw women have survived. Four generations of women have tackled ups and downs: now, Annette is perfectly comfortable wither life. Charlene has tasted the bittersweet notes of success. Raven is preparing for the wedding of a century, and a life rich in love afterward. Beautiful, young Royael has all the pleasures of a princess… While Dallas is in uproar over a gruesome rape-homicide, a lead Detective transforms into the ultimate stalker. A hitman lurks nearby. And death will surely come. The list of those wanting vengeance has reached its peak, but the Bible says that “God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” Take one last roller coaster ride with the Shaw and Devereux families. Will there be rest for these souls? Nicole Dunlap was nice enough to answer a few questions. Here are her answers. 1. Describe what "gumbo genre" is to your readers. I’ve dubbed myself as “the gumbo genre” novelist because books shouldn’t be lightly seasoned. I write stories with drama, drizzled with suspense, seasoned with romance, and peppered with a few good laughs and an occasional cry. I try to be unique, especial with series’ so readers aren’t seeing patterns throughout the installments. For example, the Shaw Family Saga, Miss Nobody was a mixture of drama and touched on suspense. The future books add fire of emotions, action, suspense, spiritual awakening. With gumbo, every bite is new and unique. 2. What is one experience as a counselor that had the most impact on you? Has it influenced your writing? I’ve listened to horror story after horror story–that is life for teenagers and little children. A student whose mother was murdered by a Los Angeles serial killer–I’ll never forget his motivation to succeed through it all. A five year old that is left at home alone, a high schooler that comes home to find the apartment empty and parents have moved without telling him, so now he’s a gang member. They believe that being in a gang provides them with family. One girl similar to teenage Raven is in an abusive relationship. These girls lose themselves in guys that are “popular” as Raven did with Chris in Miss Nobody. Their stories work on my emotions slowly, and I can literally feel Raven’s depression in the first books. By the time the series ends, the readers are dealing with a lifetime impact of family issues. 4. How do your characters deal with their abandonment issues? Charlene redirects her issues into the form of acting. She will overcompensate for not taking care of Raven. Raven is very internal, holding in her problems and tries to keep secrets. I do show theme evolving somewhat, because learning to cope takes years. 5. Describe your writing process. I co-weave drama by writing the first draft of a story and making bullet points for some of the plot to be answered in other series. There are issues from Miss Nobody that have traveled over to Miss Perfect. Not big ones where the reader gets frustrated, waiting for a resolution. I wouldn’t do that. It gets annoying. But when you get to book three and four, your bottom lip will drop, realizing that a small issue in book one was sooo very important. 6. What advice can you offer to new writers? Get a thick skin. Not all stories are for everybody. You will get a review from a reader who thinks the story should have gone left when it went right. Read every review, take some of your fans advice, oftentimes it is useful. I’ve had book clubs invite me to discussions, and they come up with themes in my stories that I didn’t even know I had. It is awesome. Here's a little taste to wet your appetite: “I’m going to kill myself…” The words pulled Raven in and shook her to the core. She closed her eyes momentarily and rubbed her face with the back of her hand. Why of all times? Her mind, her body, her soul warned her to hurry to the jaded teen, but the ease of the Marcielago engine indicated that she might not make it down the hill if she sped too fast. Less than fifteen minutes later, Raven slowed down in Sadie’s neighborhood of three-story mini mansions. She parked on the driveway of Sybille’s Spanish-style villa and hopped out of the car. In distressed jeans and a long tee, Sadie loomed on the wrought iron banister from her bedroom balcony. The sun had been cast out by the willow trees, the day already misty–a muggy wet summer indeed–Sadie’s Converses could slip from the banister and down she’d go. All because she couldn’t take Raven’s breakup. Jon wanted Raven to rid herself of Tyriq, and knowing that brother and sister were so close, she’d called Sadie over to tell her the same. “Please!” Raven held up her hands, eyes wet with worry. “Come up, Sis. Come see me.” “Okay, oh-kay…” Raven hurried to the front door, her hands went to the knobs and she yanked them both open. Mud on her feet trekked over the white carpet as she took the stairs two at a time. Inside Sadie’s room, with its mellow yellow walls, butterfly and smiley face stickers, scattered makeup. It was a room for… a confused soul who knew not if she wanted to transform from child to adult, a mixture of confused adolescence. When Raven stepped out onto the deck, there was no trace of Sadie. “Sis…” Sadie called. Raven turned around. She hadn’t seen this area before. There should’ve been just a wall with posters of young rap groups and pictures but no, the wall was gone. Within the folds was an opened stainless steel door. “Sadie,” Raven hurried to her. She could’ve slapped the teen, but hugged Sadie instead. “Don’t ever do that again. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. That was stupid of me, but don’t…” her voice broke as Sadie let her go. The apology for abandoning a friend lay dormant within the bristling of her belly. She knew disregarding Sadie because of her brother, Tyriq was– “Raven.” Tyriq spoke her name in multisyllabic, as if years apart had torn his heart into pieces and just this mere sight of her, slowly intertwined the meat of it back together. She glared at him. BOOM. The steel door slammed shut. Raven looked around. His sister was out of sight, except for a few monitors linked to the panic room. Sadie stood just on the other side of the partition, looking into the camera..... Ready to read the rest? You can find Ms. Nicole Dunlap here. Country star Cole Grayson is in town, and Kylie Andrews is less than thrilled. As if months of changing the radio station and tearing down his posters weren’t bad enough, now she has to deal with a town of fans swarming toward the man who deceived her the year before. But when Kylie’s eyes meet Cole’s again, she can’t deny the electric chemistry that drew her to him the first time around. Cole Grayson is on a mission. Ever since Kylie left him, he hasn’t been able to forget her sweet country smile. After writing a song just for her, he sets off for her hometown to prove he’s not the player she thinks he is. But as much as Cole can’t forget her, Kylie wonders if she can forgive him… ______________________________ Excerpt: Kylie Andrews’s Texas-themed gift shop, Cowbelles, sat on the very outer edge of Fort Worth’s Stockyards District, not far from Jimmy’s Honky Tonk. And much to her dismay, no matter how often she cleared it, the wall adjacent to her store remained covered with announcements for local events. Like, for example, concerts. She stared at the latest layer of advertisements. From the topmost poster, Cole Grayson stared out at her, leaning against the edge of an old barn door, guitar at his feet. One booted foot was kicked up against the wooden wall behind him. His dark-blond hair curled around behind one ear and fell down across his eye on the other side. A cowboy hat rested on the ground next to the guitar. Her hand drifted up toward the image, hovering several inches from the picture of his face. She glanced around. None of the other shopkeepers were outside. No one was watching. “Bastard,” she whispered to herself, and ripped the poster off the wall. At least, she tried to. It was thicker than she had expected, attached more firmly, and it resisted her pull. Chewing on her lip, she took another look around, dropped her bag to the ground, and reached up to grasp the edge with both fists, jerking at it in opposite directions. A tiny tear opened up along the side, and she yanked harder. Finally, the poster ripped—right across Cole Grayson’s lying eyes. She tugged at the image some more, glancing around surreptitiously every few moments and dropping ragged pieces of paper on the ground at her feet, until there was nothing left on the wall but a few fluttering strips. Gathering the mutilated shreds together, she opened her bag and shoved them inside until they overflowed, bright ribbons of color in the morning light. ____________________________________________________________ About the Author Margo Bond Collins is the author of contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and paranormal mysteries. Beyond the Count by Ed. Margo Bond Collins Long before Dracula, vampires stalked the literary scene. These early literary vampires are sometimes terrifying, at times melodramatic, and occasionally ridiculous, but they are always out for blood—and their vampiric descendants continue to fascinate and captivate us. Beyond the Count is a collection of vampire stories, plays, and poems from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This collection gives students, scholars, and vampire aficionados the opportunity to examine works often long out of print and to contextualize the development of vampire legend beyond that most famous of literary Counts. About the Editor Margo Bond Collins holds a Ph.D. in eighteenth-century British literature and is a professor of English, and is also the author of a number of novels, including Taming the Country Star, Legally Undead, Waking Up Dead, and Fairy, Texas. After a decade of moving all around the country (Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta are a few of the places she's lived), she has settled in her native Texas. Margo lives near Fort Worth with her husband, her daughter, and several very spoiled cats, and she spends most of her free time daydreaming about heroes, monsters, cowboys, and villains. ON TOUR and FREE by Barbara Shoff... A Community of Butterflies..Chrysalis *A Community of Butterflies: Chrysalis (Published by LilyBearHouse, LLC.) ' ... just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly ... " On-again-off-again psychic Vay Armstrong has a plan to change the world. Following ten years of domestic violence and abuse, she struggles with post-traumatic stress, paranoia and an inability to trust others. Determined to escape her reclusive life, she enlists the help of other abuse survivors to create a utopian community within Jakesville, Oklahoma. Will Vay be able to overcome family opposition, a romantic entanglement and a homicidal stalker to make her vision a reality, or will her only reality be a cold hole in the ground?" A little excerpt to draw you in. Reaching across pillows she wrapped her two terriers in one arm. She rolled to the floor, her free hand grasping the .38 from her nightstand. Crouching, she scurried across the hall to her closet sanctuary. She shoved both pets into a single crate. “Shhh,” She commanded. They obeyed. Bracing herself against the wall, flipping the safety with her thumb, she waited. Calls for help were useless. William was never there when law enforcement arrived. She’d remembered the officers’ whispers, “Paranoid. Delusional. Crazy.” She made the decision. Escape. Barbara Shoff began writing before she could write. At the age of five she would make up dialogue for her friends so they could perform plays. They charged a nickle a performance to "the old people" (parents and grandparents) in the neighborhood. The stage was a front porch with a blanket curtain. Their group was quite successful which kept them in bubble gum and popsicles most summers. In the 1980's Barbara had a column in a small town Missouri newspaper. It was called, “BJ’s Corner.” She wrote it for free. She became serious about writing and began penning articles for several women's magazines. “I sold my first article for $25. I was so excited I screamed so loud you would have thought it was for 25 million. I have written brilliant ad copy as well as very dull assembly instruction manuals.” Severely social media challenged two years ago, Barbara became the accidental Pundit on PolicyMic. It was when she had her non-fiction expose’ complete and was looking for a publisher when Barbara decided it was high-time the old dog started learning new tricks. As a survivor of domestic violence and abuse she wanted to give back to her community. “Social workers educating survivors living in a shelter about domestic violence and abuse is ass backwards. These women already know better than the social workers what happened. The ‘whys’ research is still sorting out. What survivors need to learn is how protect themselves and support themselves while they heal and transform into something stronger and more beautiful than they were before. To that purpose, I wrote a stalker thriller, A Community of Butterflies: Chrysalis as the first book in a trilogy.” Barbara has picked every brain she could find to try to figure out about the ins and outs of developing a “platform” and how social media works for writers. She took a social media for dummies class at a local technology center. “I almost learned some things about Facebook. The next day they changed it. “I hired a fifteen year old to teach me asking, how something was done. He would shrug his shoulders and say, ‘Dunno. Let’s try this. Nope, not that, Let’s try this.’ Fifty dollars later a light went on and I decided to try stuff on my own. I watched YouTube videos until my eyes crossed, took a spiral notebook full of notes and finally built a website. “I am still learning. Now both books are published. I am signed up on almost every freaking social media site there is and am maybe, kinda, sorta getting an idea of how they possibly work. Mostly I’m praying Oprah or Ellen will ‘discover’ me and I can concentrate on writing my books and going to shelters giving chrysalis building lessons. “Oh, yeah. In 2013 I was honored to be a member of the inaugural cast of Oklahoma City’s production of Listen to Your Mother. You can watch me on YouTube by searching, LTYM OKC Barbara Shoff.” Contact the Author www.barbarashoff.com FB: https://www.facebook.com/BarbaraJShoff Blog: meanderingmentalmusings.blogspot.com To check out her book: Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Community-Butterflies-Chrysalis-Barbara-Shoff-ebook/dp/B00JANH6CS/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1398914573&sr=1-1&keywords=A+Community+of+Butterflies This great book was presented by: Contact Wendy if you want to see all the great things she does to promote your book. https://www.facebook.com/theskillsdepot?fref=ts

Maggie gave her a quick squeeze, the smell of lavender and vanilla filling the air as she nestled her chin in the cloud of Edna’s silver curls. Mabel reached out and squeezed Maggie’s hand. Jeremy seemed to be pleased by the appearance of the two geriatric Nancy Drews, but Maggie’s eyes narrowed with suspicion at Edna. “It’s amazing how you always seem to be in the middle of whatever excitement is going on.” Edna shrugged and gave her a look of mock innocence. “You know me, honey, if there’s a pile of trouble somewhere, I’ll find a way to step in it.” Mabel cackled at Edna’s joke, then her laugh turned into a phlegmy smoker’s cough, and Edna turned to slap her on the back. “You’ve got to give up those cancer sticks,” she said in between slaps. “Ahh, bite me,” wheezed Mabel. “I’m gonna die anyway.” Ignoring the drama of the elderly women, Maggie pulled on Edna’s sleeve. “Who is that guy you were talking to? And what did you find out?” Regardless of her knack for finding trouble, Edna was good at ferreting out information and could usually be counted on to know the inside scoop. “Do they know what happened to Jim?” Jeremy absently rubbed his tiny grandmother’s back, used to her frequent coughing fits. Edna whipped out her notebook, holding it within inches of her nose. “Well, I haven’t had a chance to gather too much information, since we just got here and they won’t let us too close to the crime scene. I’m sure they’re dusting for prints and gathering DNA evidence. The evidence always tells the true story, you know.” “OMG,” Maggie said, mimicking one of her son’s favorite terms. She tried to control her eyes from rolling into the back of her head as she listened to Edna’s CSI-esque interpretation of the scene. “What do you actually know?” Edna huffed and lowered her voice. “Well, we know a man was murdered here.” “Oh my gosh. You think? Maybe you should open your own ladies’ detective agency.” WIN ONE OF 3 eBOOKS.You can also use this link to connect directly.http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/share-code/YTQ1NWM3Zjk2MGMzZTg0ZThhYTIzYWJlNDcwMWUxOjI2/ She writes from the mountains of Colorado where she lives with her husband, two sons, a parakeet, and a golden retriever named Cooper. Instead, when she met her fate early thanks to a creep with a knife and a mommy complex, she went to Alabama. Now she's witnessed another murder, and she's not about to let this one go. She's determined to help solve it before an innocent man goes to prison. And to answer the biggest question of all: why the hell did she wake up dead in Alabama? Excerpt As Molly straightened up, the man slipped the wire over her head and twisted it around her neck. She struggled, but he pulled the garrote tighter and tighter. I was screaming at the top of my ghostly voice, for all the good it did me. I moved up behind the man and beat at his back with closed fists--fists that slipped in and out of his back without ever making real contact. He shuddered a little--clearly he was one of the very slightly sensitive ones--but he didn’t loosen his hands. I reached up and tried to grab the wire, tried to pull against the pressure he was exerting on the wire and it did loosen for an instant. But only for an instant. The living have more control over solid objects than the dead do. I never resented that fact more than at that moment. But I kept trying. I kept trying as Molly’s face turned purple, then blue, then black, kept trying even as she drooped in the man’s grip. Then he loosened the wire and it was too late. I watched that wispy, light-on-fog life force slip out of Molly and move on to wherever it is that other people go when they die. I was glad she didn’t show up next to me as a full-blown ghost. At that moment, I wouldn’t have wished my impotent half-existence on anyone. I couldn’t help thinking that if I’d been alive, I might have been able to save her. If I could have cried real tears, I would have. As it was, I was sobbing hoarsely and calling the man every dirty name I could think of. I was still cursing as I followed him around the kitchen. First he opened the pantry and pulled out a box of Hefty garbage bags. Then he grabbed a knife out of the block on the counter. And finally, he picked up Molly’s body and carried it to the bathroom. An early love of romance novels and the Wild West led her to choose the historical romance genre but she also writes contemporary romance. At present, she has five books published in paperback by Kensington Books (one under the pseudonym Rachel Summers), and four eBooks published by Tirgearr Publishing. Constantly teased and taunted by the popular girls, Elena Baxter desperately wants to fit in. On her sweet sixteenth, she receives two shocking gifts: telekinesis and the surprising truth about her heritage. With high hopes that things will be different now, Elena returns to school to find that nothing has changed. Only this time her hurt feelings and frustration boil into something even she cannot understand. When her powers explode, chaos ensues and she learns that her new ability is greater than she ever desired. As she learns to control her powers, Elena discovers there’s so much more to her heritage than she ever imagined. Are you sitting down? Andrea sent an excerpt to share with you. As Elena bounded back up the stairs, her mom watched, smiling, thinking about the last 16 years, and of all this next one would bring. She knew there would be a lot of changes, more so than Elena could possibly know, and she was looking forward to every one of them. She could hardly wait for Isabel’s arrival the next day so they could finally tell Elena the truth about who she was, and help her to blossom and start to become whom she was meant to be. The writing team of Charles and Wendy Siefken are no exception. Do take a few minutes and see why their such a good team. So here goes.... For what are you grateful? We are both grateful for our health and our families. If you had two years left to live from this moment, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow? I think both of us would devote a lot more time to writing our stories. Right now, we are in the mode of, “there is always tomorrow”, two years we would push much harder. What is the number one lie you tell yourself? How is that working out? This question is pretty subjective. We think that if you tell yourself a lie long enough you will begin to believe it. Like if you tell yourself you will be alone for the rest of your life, you will begin to believe it. If you tell yourself every day that you will be happy and think positive thoughts, you can change how you see life. It can work out but it’s a retraining and reconditioning of the brain and how you think of yourself. When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive! For Charlie it was when he kept his car from going into a really steep ditch when he wrecked his car. For me it has to be when we went to Hawaii and I went swimming in the ocean and was comfortable. What is one of the most unusual things you have done in your life? For me, I was a mannequin in a store. It was a lot of fun. So far, the most unusual thing Charlie has done was go to a girl’s birthday party and play with the Barbie dolls. He was the only boy there. When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful? When a young man in a pickup rolled right in front of us we assisted in calling 911 and helping the EMTs get him out of the truck. Keeping him calm and covering him to keep him from freezing and going into shock. Yes, his mother was very grateful. Bio Charles Siefken (1992-present) is a recent graduate of high school. This is his first book of many to be published. He currently resides in rural central Iowa where he enjoys reading sci/fi books and playing video games among other things. He currently works at a local auto mechanics shop and will be attending college this fall to get a degree as well. Christopher Paolini was his inspiration to become a writer. Wendy Siefken (1966-Present)Currently working full time from home on writing stories and now a virtual assistant to those in need of an extra pair of hands online. Wendy lives on a farm with her family and enjoys reading, gardening and other activities with her family and friends. This is our first publication with many more to follow. This all started as a school project for her youngest son and business partner, Charles Siefken, which has grown into a desire to be published. The book is a journey into the fantasy realm of what if's. Zombies took over the world? What if werewolves were real? What if dragons were really not from earth but from another planet? I hope you enjoy this YA book. This book is ideal for a young reader who you may not want reading a book with a lot of blood and gore. This book doesn't have that. It has a story without all the graphics of a battle. My Work in Progress If your a writer you are always open for new ideas or ways to approach something. If your a marketer your always are pushing your brand. Oh, heaven forbid.. if your both. If your a writer in today’s world you are. The other night while hanging out in the emergency room. OK, while withering in pain at the E.R. I subtly mentioned I am a writer to the nurse. Of course, I mentioned my new WIP a story located on the Santa Fe Trail in 1859. By then the pain meds were doing their job. Well, knock me down and roll me over...guess where Nurse Diane has been. Since the lucky girl had been there in person and me only through the magic of the Internet my jealously was obvious. That was until she mentioned Pictures. ‟PICTURES,” I said. Sweet Nurse Diane has shared a few of hers and I added a few I found on line you’ll see the beauty of hers instantly so ...ENJOY. Notice the Pink colored rock. If you click it-I think you will see it better. Couldn't you just sit and stare out for hours? I could. Nurse Diane's beautiful ones above. The online ones below. A great big THANK YOU to Diane for letting us take a peak at her pic's. Ps. to Nurse Diane.. more meds please. ** Falling rock and ruins © Rimasz | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

I didn’t like any of them and of course, I said so. I thought, I did it nicely, but then again- maybe not (that the author’s opinion) isn’t it. However, I was trying to be honest. I guess that’s one of the points I am trying to make. Whose opinion matters most when you title your book? What is your title supposed to do for your work? In my opinion the title should make the reader seek more information, or give an indication of what to expect when they flutter through the pages of your novel. And that’s why some authors have been known to be traumatized when it comes to choosing the ‟Perfect Title.” I have it on great authority of the gazillion books Amazon alone offered the world 145,324* are on hold waiting for the bestest title. My own experience with titles. I named the piece. I saw it in my head that way. The whole time I worked on it the title stuck. The story was wrapped and weaved around the title. Why, I even listed it that way in my word processor. So, that should tell you something. Right? However, when I began to share it and talk about it in the last stages I kept calling it something else. Now, my presumed title that I worked with for a year and a half was replaced. Here some Great title ideas.. see if you can tell what the story would be about. How to Murder a Pig. 1. How to butcher a hog. 2. Cookbook for pork. 3. How to kill off your slob of a spouse.(BBQ sauce recipe included.) The Coo-coo next Door. 1. Your neighbor the crazy guy. 2. The extinct bird farm across the street. 3. Why Mr. Rogers shot Grannie’s irritating clock.(not for children) Soda: the good and bad 1. Helpful hints on using soda for health. 2. How to remove paint. 3. Cheat your way to win the county belching contest and win first prize. (A Tape-deck player from 1970) *no real statistics were harmed and if they were so what.
